Talisman John

Mick has drawn my attention to tributes in tonight’s paper to John Bullock who died recently. We are sure he is the same John who played in the Talismen and Lace around the city (and further afield) in the 60s. The spread from the Record Mirror (above) records the success of the Talismen in a national competition. We offer our sympathy to all his family and friends.

The full line-up of the Talismen was Mick Reeves (V/G) , Pete Pinkney (G), John Bullock (BG), Dick Ray (D). Mick was later replaced by Roger Barber (V/G) – he joined Arthur Ward’s band.

Classics with the Stars

Here are the Classcs playing support to the Manish Boys – named after the Willie Dixon/Muddy Waters song in the R&B days of January 1965. And that Decca Recording Star Davy Jones was of course no monkey but the future David Bowie. On the following night Jimmy Powell & the Five Dimensions although we know from that Rendezvous tale of Christmas 1964 that by then Rod Stewart had departed

Early Classics

JR’s Gosport favourites – Tony Ransley and Pete O’Flaherty who later joined the Big Sound, Ian Duck and another early member (but I’m not sure who he is). Answer: check out the GREAT comment from Tony (who sent these pics)!

Website Photos

This fine looking fellow is Tony Ransley, drummer with the Classics, Simon Dupree & the Big Sound (and others) and local hairdresser. Tony’s been sending me some lovely photos from way back which I shall soon add here and to the website (http://www.pompeypop.co.uk/).

In the past couple of days I’ve added two new photo albums to the website (Simon Dupree & the Big Sound and the Honeys, see below). Frank Kelly will be next up.

More photos always welcome
