100 Years Up Above My Head


Friday is the centenary of the birth of one of the greatest women rock & rollin’, blues hollering, gospel singing, guitar strumming performers ever – Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She played Pompey Guildhall on the Blues & Gospel Train and here’s one of her best known songs – covered in the 60s by Long John Baldry & Rod Stewart


There’s a programme on BBC4 tomorrow night. It’s been on before and it’s a cracker

  2. She also appeared at the South Parade Pier with the Chris Barber Band in the late 50’s.
