Eastney Opening

50 years ago this very evening, the Walker Brothers did not play in Portsmouth

But that nice Jimmy Saville was there to tell everyone.

Where else?

It was the official Opening Party although the club had been running a couple of months.

Among those who did appear:

Birdcage Open

Including, if I’m not mistaken, Charlie Fuggle and Barry Thane

(incidentally, in case you’re wondering, the Walker Bros were advertised)

  1. What fabulous times. That thrill, electricity will be in my memory forever. Friendships were made and forged forever.

  2. Unless my old eyes are deceiving me, I can’t see Charlie Fuggle in either pic. Think it’s young Mr Thane in both.

  3. You may be right. I did once check the Vags photo with Barry who confirmed that one, and there is another of Herbie Goins at the ‘Cage which is clearly him. I thought the guy front of the Action was Charlie but maybe not.

  4. He must have been the original ‘photobomber’ getting into all these ‘Cage’ pics.
