Golden Eagle Gwyn & Gigs

Recommended by Mr Greedy who spotted this on Saturday night while celebrating the mighty blues’ 4-0 victory:

Ashton

Saw this guy – Gwyn Ashton at the Golden Eagle on Saturday evening
Brilliant blues/rock guitarist playing solo a la Seasick Steve but miles better in my opinion ! Told the landlord Cliff that he really should let the blog know what he’s got on especially this type of act that would be right up the street of most of the people on the site

And Cliff has sent us his itinerary and Facebook address:

  1. Gwyn Ashton is indeed a fine performer who used to play at The Bullfrog on a fairly regular basis.

I booked him at The Isle Of Wight Folk Roots & Blues Festival at Ventnor. and a very well respected artiste was so incensed over his arrogance that he left without performing his set .

I organised an Irish tour for Gwyn Ashton. I drove him from one end of the Republic to the other, for no money whatsover, but he managed to upset every promoter in Ireland with his attitude,

After playing free entry gigs at Cliff’s excellent “Golden Eagle” venue (Gwyn didn’t tell me he was going to do any gigs there) he asked me for another booking at The Bullfrog. I explained it to him quite simply….

” Free entry at “The Golden Eagle”. £8 advance/£10 on door at Bullfrog. And the two venues are very close to each other. Go figure! ”

Yep, go see him at “The Golden Eagle” – if you enjoy great guitar playing this is for you . But you’ll never see him at any of my gigs again……

  2. By the way, Cliff is a mate, and before he took over “The Golden Eagle” was a regular at The Bullfrog where I know he saw Gwyn on number of occasions.

I was drinking with Cliff in his fine establishment only last Thursday. Just to make it clear, I don’t harbour any animosity towards Cliff whatsover – but I did let him know my feelings over Mr A’s past behavior!

  3. I’ve been invited to Trudy Barber’s drink and draw nights(she’s at a university you may have heard of). I wonder if they serve mild!
