POMPEY POP

Pierre Boulez RIP

The major French classical composer and conductor has died. He’s not on the whole a ‘Pompey Pop’ subject except for two works – in 1969 he collaborated with Spooky Tooth on the album Ceremony, then in 1984 he and Frank Zappa co-produced the album Boulez Conducts Zappa.

  1. R I P……52 Years ago today…………..Cyril Davies , at just 32 ,hugely influential character of the time……………

  2. Well spotted Phil. I think this is an accurate memory that on a Saturday in 1964 I was in Commercial Road and bought the “Countryline Special” EP and my first harmonica from Courtney & Walker on the same day (Echo Super Vamper – about ten bob), then went home and started learning. It was almost certainly in the wrong key for the record and since I knew no better I learned to play the wrong way round (bass notes on the right) – I still play it that way

  3. Upside down player !!!! presenting the Jimi Hendrix of harmonica…….Doctor Dave Allen…………….
    Well done that man….

  4. Hah! Never thought of it like that. Nice

  5. Phil check out his next live performance… I bet he plays his washboard upside down as well
