A New Bit

1956 Exhibition

I’ve started a new wall at the Guildhall exhibition about 1956 – the 60th anniversary of the arrival of rock & roll in Pompey, the earliest skiffle hits and Stan Kenton’s Big Band at the Savoy. It’s not finished yet but I’ve started with a couple of display panels and some old 78rpm local sleeves.

Incidentally, AAA is no more. The exhibition is officially  called the Portsmouth Music EXperience.

  1. Looking good Dave. So what happened with the name change?

  2. Not exactly sure, Nigel, Audrie and Phil are the guys in charge now and I think they felt it should be more specific – Portsmouth and Music

  3. Makes good marketing sense I think. Much easier to get added in tourist guides etc.

  4. I’m sure I must have some 1956 memorabilia for your wall. I’ll do some munging(is that a pompey expression mush?)

  5. Keep on Munging? Thanks. There isn’t much space on the wall but some and there are other ways of using anything relevant up to the September anniversary
