Back in 1966 I was a loyal fan of a very ordinary Pompey side, albeit one that was two divisions higher than today. These days I do no more than watch from afar and I’ve noticed something that the regulars will surely be aware of.
Pompey are often quite good for 89 minutes then at the end they usually concede a goal which like tonight often means dropping points.
Also in 1966, Wilson Pickett appeared at the Birdcage when one of his better numbers was “99-and-a-Half Won’t Do” (I’ve got to have a hundred). A decade later Dr Feelgood did a lively version too
So some current Pompey band ought to rework it as “89-and-a-half-won’t-do” (I’ve got to have 90).
Then they could teach it to the team.
