Another one bites the dust

For many decades The Old House at Home in Locksway Road has been the venue for folk gigs, singarounds, open mics and the like but The News today reports the landlord is bankrupt and it’s to close. It follows the Railway, Talbot, Star and Alma Arms (at least) as that kind of ‘genre’ venue that is now merely the stuff of legend and myth.

  1. It seems that a lot of ‘Pompey’ pubs seem to fall victim to their landlords. (E……. I…)) . We’ve lost the Cellars and ( as yet unconfirmed ) El Nico (formally Monk’s Bar).

    • It’s the landlords who are the victims here Oscar ,of ever increasing rents and overpriced purchasing imposed on them by the pub chains/breweries/property developers who don’t like tenants doing something a bit different from their homogenised, corporate, gentrified gastropub norm of the moment!
So put the rent up ,put in a manager and if it then fails build a block of flats!

  2. I despair…. especially as I#vr put gigs in there, as well as The Railway and The Alma Arms – not forgettting The Cellars At Eastney either,,,
