Mayfly is very nearly upon us again. That’s right! The one-day pop-up festival of art, music and poetry in the Square Tower, Old Portsmouth takes briefly to the air again on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2nd, from 12 noon to 8pm.
There will be lots of artwork on show and live music all day, interspersed with readings from some of the very best local poets.
You can sit around drinking tea and munching delicious cakes, you can drink some excellent real ale or you can just soak up the atmosphere and immerse yourself in art and while away the hours in the company of creative people.
It is completely free to get in, and also free to leave, but if you’re enjoying the music, please do bung a couple of quid in the hat for the musicians.
Marley Blandford, Best Solo Artist in the WOW24/7 awards this year, opens the music at 12.00. Later you can hear Sue Apicella, The Wireless, Red Sky Divers, The Polite Mechanicals and Scarlet Town.
There are three poetry slots during the day with readings from Maggie Sawkins, Syd Meats and Portsmouth Poet Laureate Sam Cox, among others.
