A couple more ‘Greats’

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Nehemiah ‘Skip’ James one of the finest of all the rediscovered blues men in the 1960s. I was lucky enough to see him in London in 1967 and still treasure his recordings. “Devil Got My Woman” is one of the most remarkable blues records of all time.

Then tomorrow is the anniversary of the birth of Howlin’ Wolf – simply an awesome musician. Here’s the real blues:

  1. A COUPLE MORE GREATS……..(with today as a birthday)
    1934…. soulster Jackie Wilson….Higher and Higher probably his best known ‘dance floor’ tune…..
    oh and Reet Petite eh Dave…..
    1915…..Lester Polsfuss……better known as Les Paul , inventor of that Gibson guitar special……. after being involved in a car accident in 1948 ,he was left with a serious elbow/arm injury…Fearing amputation , (not good for guitarists apparently), he had his right arm set at an angle that enable him to pick up and play again within the year……Well done that man !!

    Something from the.. “WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE” file…….Number 1 on the British charts this week in 1975
