POMPEY POP

Goldsmith Avenue

Will be busy tomorrow afternoon but here it was around 1970 when the fans of soul and ska took refuge in the Marina after the Birdcage closed. The first photo was sent from Chris Fosbrooke (left) who these days plays harmonica with the Southsea Skiffle Orchestra. On the right is Charlie Bish, who I understand is a mate of Pete Cross

And here are Colin Webb & Steve Prior – lovely wallpaper

We’ve not finished with the Marina yet; more tomorrow.

  1. I remember Charlie Bish – from St Nick’s Youth Club in Copnor. He had a pair of
two-tone brogues (cherry red/apple green). I liked the shoes. But what I really admired was the courage of going around in them in Copnor/North End/Buckland.
