Tuesday Night at the Movies

Do you have access to the “Talking Pictures’ channel? (Freeview 81, Sky 343, Virgin 445)
I do hope so, for tonight, at 10 minutes after midnight, there is a rare chance to see the UK classic 60s movie Gonks Go Beat, starring Kenneth Connor, plus a number of musical contributions including Lulu & the Luvvers, the Nashville Teens and the Graham Bond Organisation with Jack, Ginger and Dick.

It’s unmissable arthouse cinema! Do you realise that there are younger people alive today, who don’t know about Gonks?

  1. Think the highlight of the movie is the battle of the drums with 7 or 8 excellent drummers playing almost in unison – including Ginger Baker, Bobby Graham who played session with Jimmy Page on (reputedly) 40,000 recordings, also there is Andy White who stood in for Ringo on ‘Love Me Do’. Amazing drumming techniques – I think even ‘our Lenny’ would have been hard pressed to keep up with them.

  2. This Talking Pictures channel is very interesting – mostly old British 50s/60s movies and this week I caught one with a delinquent Adam Faith and another with Tom Bell as Ray Charles’ musical arranger!
