POMPEY POP

Screen EXTRA Special

MRA and I spent a delightful evening, yesterday at the Guildhall for a Premiere of Nigel Grundy’s new documentary about Pompey in the 60s (with a bit added on at either end). It’s a real labour of love, a terrific effort with contributions from lots of ‘musos’, DJs, fans and promoters, recalling those heady days.

Last night was a showing for an invited audience, comprising mostly the participants, but Nigel will be showing it again at the Guildhall, around 4.30pm on Tuesday 20 June, as part of the ‘Summer of Love’ evening (Portsmouth Festivities), and in a couple of weeks or so he’ll have copies for sale. We’ll keep you informed:

  1. It was very well put together, I think he covered the all important aspects of that era so well done NG !!
A couple of teeny weeny crticisms, I thought too much time was devoted to the Simon Dupree/Gentle Giant thing even though they made a huge contribution to the music scene, and secondly, those bloody seats made my ‘arris a bit on the tender side….just a minor observation you understand….

  2. Blimey the Birdcage. I used to go down there. Saw Arthur Brown there once… Was that one of Ricky Farr’s ventures?
