And in 1967?

I’ve almost nothing to tell you. The Birdcage was approaching its end and had only one booking this weekend, on Saturday for Denny Laine, but he didn’t arrive. Otherwise, Moby Grape released their album and Traffic a new single and that’s about it – but next weekend, California’s ‘Summer of Love’ went into overdrive.

Is that all? Well Geoff Boycott scored a not out double century for England v India at Leeds on Thursday/Friday, while Hampshire beat Gloucestershire in Pompey on Saturday, Sunday & Monday – and of course you won’t be surprised that Gloucestershire included the former England off-spinner, David Allen.

There’s always something to tell.

  1. I definitely remember seeing Denny Laine at the Birdcage/Brave New World in 1967 but not the date!!
Anyway the game was up by then!!!!
    It’d become Silly Nonsense Time!

  2. He did arrive eventually – end of July.

    • Even then he was missing two members of the string quartet for some reason – I thought they were pretty good, although apart from “Say You Don’t Mind” the songs tended to blend in together.
