A Cracker!

We’re about half way to Christmas and a couple of days ago, I alerted you to the programme “American Epic – the Sessions” where a whole bunch of mostly very interesting current musicians record ‘good old’ stuff using 1920s technology (Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Rhianna Giddens, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson etc).

Well I’ve seen it now and it’s like a Christmas Present! Fabulous and (technically) fascinating. It’ll be on IPLayer.

  1. Totally agree – a real treat! But Elton John – why include him??? I’ve listened to it a few times on ‘Deezer’ – 32 tracks. I understand the reasons why, but going to all that trouble to make a recording using equipment and techniques from the 1920’s, then releasing it as a cd (which doesn’t have the same breadth of sound as analogue) does seem a little incongruous.
Incidentally, a never heard before interview with Chuck Berry from the ’70’s on Radio 6 yesterday – get it on catch up. The cd he made just before he passed on has been released – ‘Chuck’ – have listened to it on ‘Deezer’ – some good some bad, some you can only wonder – why?
